Avoid Seasonal Allergies

by Dr. Lance McClure

Seasonal Allergies

There are many factors that play a role in your seasonal allergies.

Seasonal allergies are no fun, especially when you can’t enjoy all the great outdoor events happening in Tennessee this time of year. An estimated 50 million Americans are affected by allergies every year. An allergic reaction occurs when the immune system overreacts to a foreign substance in your body. Your immune system is responsible for keeping your body organic and pure, but it can become overwhelmed without an appropriate diet, a clean environment, and regular chiropractic care.

Diet & Supplements

Your diet can make a significant impact on your allergies. Certain foods can help your body overcome allergies, while others can make things worse. Studies have shown that the essential fatty acids in organic flax seed and hemp seed can help to reduce seasonal allergy symptoms, but foods such as dairy products, sugar, milk, corn, and processed wheat are known to cause congestion. In general, a healthy diet of natural, unprocessed foods will boost your immune system and help to prevent seasonal allergies.

Allerplex, a natural decongestant, has helped many people reduce their allergy symptoms by supporting the body’s natural management of mucus, its healthy liver function, and its healthy respiratory function. Ask any BCG team member about Allerplex.

Environment

It probably comes as no surprise that your environment causes allergies, but what you may not know is that even the inside of your home can cause a lot of your allergy symptoms. There are ways to minimize your exposure, though.

One way to avoid allergens in your environment is to clean up your living space. There are all kinds of allergens in your carpet and furniture. Even clutter collects allergens, so make your home clean and open. When cleaning, use only organic, non-toxic cleaning products, which won’t trigger allergies like many name-brand products can.

Try to wash your bed sheets at least once per week with hot water to prevent dust mites from taking up residence in your bed. This will also kill any that are already paying property taxes. Send them packing!

The pollen count is typically highest in the morning, from 5 am to 10 am, so plan your outdoor activities for the afternoon or evening. When doing yard work or gardening, make sure to wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth. Keep your windows closed during that time, and most importantly, change your air filter once per month.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic adjustments boost your immune system by relieving pressure on your nervous system. When vertebra are out of alignment, nervous system blockages can create stress on your body. When our doctors adjust your spine, your body’s natural ability to heal itself is restored, making it better at responding to allergens.

Dr. McClure has been working with me on these issues for a long time. He has worked on my right ear twice in July and talked with me about other alternatives. I am going to an ENT tomorrow. Then I will be back to see Dr. McClure on August 13 at which time he can review the treatment with me.
