Introducing Nashville Chiropractor Dr. Frank Batson
Simply put, I was a skeptic!
I was 18 years old and on Christmas break of my freshman year at David Lipscomb University... I was doing what I had always done in summers and breaks, working construction for my father's business, Frank Batson Homes.
On a particular day, I happened to be shoveling gravel in the crawlspace of one of the foundations when all of the sudden, I fell to my knees, I couldn't move and had to be carried to the truck. For 2 days my mom tried to get me to go to the Chiropractor, but I was stubborn. Instead, I rested at home and tried to "walk it off". Finally, I asked for the number and made my appointment. Immediately after my first visit there was some relief and within 2 weeks I was 80% better. Being raised not to rush to the doctor or medicine cabinet every time a symptom was present, but rather taking a holistic approach to health with common sense and giving your body what it needs to heal like vitamins, I was very intrigued by this non-traditional approach to health.
I attended Life University in Atlanta, the largest Chiropractic University in the world. Being in Atlanta from 1996 to 2000 was awesome. Not only did I get to be there at a very prime time for the city with the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series, and all the professional and collegiate sporting events happening in the city at the time, but I got to see first hand the important role that Chiropractic plays in these tremendous athletes. It was not uncommon to see Dan O'Brien, Chipper Jones, Larry Bird, Moses Malone, Christian Laetner, Alan Henderson, and many other sports icons on our campus, using our facilities and receiving Chiropractic care. My first quarter, still skeptical as to what Chiropractic was and if in fact this is what I wanted to do, I had a class with Dr. Gadsden. He told us a story about a mission trip to Russia where the people lined up to receive care and how one woman came back to him later with an interpreter and told him how she had been completely blind for 2 years and now she could see. I knew then, this was the profession for me.
Our Mission Statement
To enrich the lives of people in this community by improving the physical, spiritual, & social health of the individuals that come into our office. We honor the inherent recuperative powers of the body to heal itself given that there is no structural or chemical imbalance. We detect and correct these interferences, especially those pertaining to the structural component, and give advice and motivation for important health factors such as nutrition, exercise, and relaxation in order to give the body all that is needs to not only feel better, but more importantly to function at an optimal level.
What About Me?
I was born in Nashville, and raised right here in Donelson. The second oldest of seven children, I grew up in a loving, Christian home. We attended Donelson Church of Christ and Good Pasture School. I began college at David Lipscomb University where I met my bride to be, Ginger Frazier. We dated for about four months, and then broke up for three years. While I was in Grad School, she called me one night and we've been together ever since. She is undoubtedly my greatest asset, my best friend, and the love of my life. We married in 2001, opened Batson Chiropractic in 2002, had our first child Macy in 2004 and our other daughter Caroline in 2006. We live in Hermitage and attend New Hope Baptist Church. In my spare time, I most enjoy being with my girls and doing things to make them smile. My greatest hobby has always been sports, especially basketball. Now that I've torn up my knees and not as quick as I once was, I enjoy being the spectator at high school, college, and pro games. Because it's in my blood, I also enjoy building a house here and there. In 2003 I became a licensed contractor and have built three houses since.
I really have a more common-sense approach to health than anything else. With this premise, your body has the innate ability to regulate and heal itself, given no interference and the right fuel for cellular healing. What does that mean, regulate the functions of your body and use symptoms that you notice as warning signs that something is not right. The less hands that have touched your food between God and your mouth, the better it is for you -- raw fruits and vegetables are the best. Because our bodies are 70% water, we should all be drinking half our body weight in ounces per day. It flushes out toxins and is fundamental to the healing process. Vitamins and Minerals should be added to our daily routines because our deficient foods we put in our bodies. While we are all constantly exposed to germs, bacteria, and viruses, it's not our exposure that determines our getting sick, it's the status of our immune system. When it is suppressed because of poor health choices, we are more likely to "catch" something. Don't expect to feel your best, have no allergy or sinus issues, and have good, regular bowel movements, and never "catch" the flu if you wake up to a pop-tart and coffee every morning, eat a burger for lunch, and pasta for dinner, drink two sodas and eat a dessert in between. Non-sense!!! Because our bodies are constantly regenerating--old cells dying off and new cells being made--in every organ and tissue... we really are what we eat. All the more important it is to be careful what we feed our babies and children, because their little bodies are growing so fast and systems are so sensitive. For the first 11 mos. of a baby's life, their immune system is not fully developed yet. Nature's way is for that baby to borrow the mother's immune function and antibodies through the breast milk. When introducing foods to babies, there is a time and an order. Food allergies, colic, sinus infections, and asthma can be the devastating effects of giving a baby the wrong foods at the wrong time. Dairy and Wheat products seem to be worse.
Finally, because our belief is such that healing comes from the inside out and not in the form of pill, my wife and I do not medicate or vaccinate unless it is absolutely a potential life or death situation. As long as the fever is not above 103 F, let it be, the body is killing off the sickness. If diarrhea or vomiting is occurring, it's good. Keep hydrating and let the body expel those toxins. There's only two ways that the body can do this.
Instead of living in a bubble and trying to name your condition and researching it on the internet, focus not on the billion of things that cause disease or sickness, but what causes health?! There's only 5 things:
- Proper Diet and Nutrients (water, vitamins, minerals, and herbs can be added here)
- Quality, Quantity of Rest
- Regular Exercise--your skin is your largest organ and a great way for the body to get rid of cellular toxins
- A nervous system free from interference that will improve all the other systems of the body including the immune system (that's what Chiropractic does), and
- Spiritual or emotional well-being and nurturing.
This is the Wellness Model we believe in and live by.
But enough about me, I consider myself an excellent listener and I hope to get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your specific health challenge and goals. Give us a call or e-mail me with the link below.
