More Americans Prefer Chiropractic

Happy Chiropractic Patients

A recent Gallup report — commissioned by Palmer College of Chiropractic — reveals that a fast-growing number of Americans are turning to chiropractic for back and neck pain. This is the first-ever nationally representative annual survey measuring experiences and perceptions of chiropractic care. The new report, called “Gallup-Palmer College of Chiropractic Inaugural Report: Americans’ Perceptions of Chiropractic,” points out that, currently, 33.6 million (14 percent) U.S. adults seek chiropractic care each year, up from a 2012 estimate of 20.6 million (8 percent) of adult Americans.

Furthermore, two-thirds (61 percent) of adult Americans believe that chiropractors are effective at treating back and neck pain, and more than half (57 percent) of adults say they are likely to see a chiropractor for neck or back pain. One-third (31 percent) of U.S. adults say they want to see a chiropractor on a regular basis, even when they’re not in pain. Adults younger than 50 are more likely than older Americans to visit a chiropractor for treatment (32 percent versus 24 percent, respectively).

Although many Americans trust chiropractors, there is still some confusion regarding the safety of chiropractic, as well as the costs of treatment. Nearly a quarter (24 percent) of U.S. adults believe that chiropractic care is dangerous, despite many researchers reporting that chiropractic adjustments are safe. Additionally, almost half (48 percent) of American adults don’t know if chiropractic care is covered by their insurance.

There are a lot of numbers here, but what they represent is a shift toward regular chiropractic care. More and more people are choosing chiropractic and experiencing great results.
